Balm information
A blend of essential oils is chosen to reduce itching, inflammation and to promote a cooling feeling. Will not melt in hot temperature, only soften.
One season a year, when the rains have turned everything green but before the sun dries it up again, the mugwort grows green and lush along the canyons in our area.
Look for poison oak and you'll find this companion plant not far off. In fact, Artemisia douglasiana, known as California Mugwort was traditionally used by local Native Americas to soothe many ailments including poison oak rash.
We harvest Mugwort from clean canyons on Wild Rice Ranch. It is bundled and sun dried over two weeks before the remaining water is removed through a short stint in the oven. Next, the dried leaves are removed from the branch and placed in a jar, topped with avocado oil and left to infuse for another two weeks. Before using, a small portion of the leaves and oil is gently warmed for several hours to release even more of the oil. Finally the oil is strained through a fine mesh and used in the salve. Combined with a combination of essential oils, carrier oils and beeswax to create an aromatic, soothing salve.
